How to Clean a Chalkboard Wall

I’m absolutely loving my chalkboard wall!  Everyone that comes over notices it right away and I love changing up the words every month or so.  My kids don’t play at it, so the mess is pretty minimal.  The only thing that annoys me is that it is hard to clean!  I did a little research and read that people have used a vinegar/water solution and even Coke to clean chalk walls.  I also read that adding just a little dish soap to warm water could do the trick.

Here is the wall using just water and a soft cloth.  Terrible, right?

I added some dish soap to a bucket of water and worked the cloth in small sections in a circular motion.  I came behind the wet cloth with a dry one.  The top section is just water, the middle section is dish soap and water after it has dried, and the bottom is still wet.  Lucky for me, this chalk wall is not very big!

It’s certainly not perfect, but it is the best thing I have tried so far.  Not sure I have the guts to put Coke on my walls!

I have also read that you should “prime” your chalk wall every few times you use it.  Simply clean the wall, turn a chalk piece on its side, and rub all over the wall.  Clean again and the surface is primed and ready!

Check out the post where I painted the chalk wall here!  Please comment if you know of a better way to clean a chalk wall!
